The Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines-Tertiary Level will hold its annual convention on August 12-13, 2010 at the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Bacolod City. The Convention with the Theme “ New Directions and Issues in Mathematics Education: Beyond the Next Decade” hopes to bring together mathematics educators (elementary, secondary and tertiary) and researchers in the country to discuss the current issues and trends in the teaching and assessment of mathematics learning. It is fully endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education.

Among the invited speakers are Dr. Dave Auckly of Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI), Berkeley, CA, Dr. Lorna Almocera of UP-Cebu, Dr. George Lu of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Dr. Dante Silva of Mapua Institute of Technology and Fr. Domingo Rafael A. Alimajen, Jr.

The convention fee, inclusive of seminar kit (includes writing materials, souvenir programme, MTAPTL t-shirt and bag), food (includes three snacks, two lunches and a dinner) and a certificate of attendance, is as follows:

2009 MTAP-TL Annual Convention

The Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines-Tertiary Level will hold its annual convention on August 13-14, 2009 at the University of Mindanao, Davao City. The Convention with the Theme “ Responding to Global Challenges in Mathematics Education” hopes to bring together mathematics educators and researchers in the country to discuss the current issues and trends in the teaching and assessment of mathematics learning. It is fully endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education.

The convention fees to cover expenses for handouts, meals, snacks, and a certificate of participation are as follows:

Early Bird Registration( on or before August 1, 2009)
Php 2000 ( for renewed members since 2008)
Php 2200 ( for nonmembers)

Regular Registration:
Php 2500 ( for renewed members since 2008)
Php 2700 ( for nonmembers)

Application for membership to MTAP-TL is open to all mathematics educators and renewal of membership shall be entertained on August 13-14, 2009. Membership fee is Php 200.00 per year, inclusive of membership certificate and ID.
Every regular member is enjoined to attend this annual convention for the election of Board of Directors. Your attendance is a great indication of your desire to improve your craft of teaching mathematics to our valued clients – the students.

ACTIVITIES DURING SY 2008-2009

During the SY 2008-2009, MTAP-TL Chapter has held two activities, namely, MATH COUNT 2009 and A SEMINAR ON LEARNING-CENTERED PERSPECTIVES IN MATHEMATICS.

The Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines-Tertiary Level (MTAP-TL) Chapter in cooperation with Department of Mathematics, MAPUA Institute of Technology(MIT), has continually adhered to its ideals in promoting mathematics in its various fields and fostering camaraderie between different colleges and universities all over the country. To attain its objectives, we had an interscholastic contest entitled “Math Count 2009”, aimed to promote mathematics in different fields among college students. It was held at Mapua Institute of Technology, Intramuros, Manila last February 7, 2009.

The another activity, A Seminar on Learning-Centered Perspectives in Mathematics was held at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Taft, Manila last March 13, 2009.

MTAP-TL SEMINAR-WORKSHOP AT DLS-CSB, MARCH 13, 2009

The Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines – Tertiary Level (MTAP-TL) Chapter in cooperation with the Mathematics Area, School of Multidisciplinary Studies, De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde will hold a Seminar- Workshop on “Learner Centered Perspectives in Mathematics” on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 4 pm, at the De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde, Taft Avenue Manila.

The invited speakers for this seminar-workshop will talk on learner-centered teaching strategies ( Dr. Maxima J. Acelajado) and on the application of Moodle to the learning and teaching mathematics ( Dr. Rizaldi C. Nocon).Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic learning Environment ( MOODLE) is an open-source software developed by Martin Dougiamas in Australia. It is used in producing internet-based courses and website used to support teaching and learning via computers with access to the internet. Lectures will be held in the morning and workshop will follow in the afternoon.
